Commune of Buttons Sable Syrah Grenache 2024

Commune of Buttons Sable Syrah Grenache is a Syrah-led blend from old vines on the deep sands of Blewitt Springs.

Sixty per cent Syrah and forty per cent Grenache, all from a single site where the vines are between sixty and eighty years old and rooted in deep sand — which is where the name comes from. Hand harvested, sorted and destemmed with ten per cent whole bunches retained, the fruit macerated for three weeks before eighteen months in a large old foudre. Warmer conditions in 2024 brought better ripeness in skins and stems, so there is more depth and finer tannin than the previous release. Jasper Button credits gentle extraction for the light frame and the sand for the tannins.

A plum and violet core sits at the centre, tannins fine and sandy, with a long line of natural acidity lifting the close. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Lamb shoulder, grilled sausages, or roast eggplant with yoghurt.
