Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir 2021

Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir is the inaugural release of the estate's village-level Pinot, blending two contrasting valleys.

Wrekin in the Brancott Valley takes 65 per cent and Dog Point's Settlement vineyard in the Omaka Valley the other 35. Settlement is generally the first block Mike Paterson picks, contributing elegance and red-fruited suppleness; Wrekin brings brooding savoury depth and palate weight. Settlement came off on 2 March with Wrekin a day behind. Both batches were destemmed and fermented on wild yeast with a single gentle pump-over each day, then moved to two and three-year-old barrels for thirteen months on lees. After blending, the wine married five months in tank before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Succulence is the first impression — red fruits, earth and spice around a supple, generous texture with lip-smacking intensity and a moreish close. Serve at 14 degrees. Roast duck, pork belly, or a mushroom and lentil braise.
