Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir 2022

Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir is a village-level Pinot Noir built from three Marlborough valleys.

The regional wines are composed from Mike Paterson's most prized vineyards, the same sites behind his single-vineyard bottlings, so nothing here comes off unproven ground. This release combines Wrekin in the Brancott Valley at 45 per cent, Settlement in the Omaka Valley at 45, and Churton in the Waihopai Valley at 10 — Settlement for elegance and red-fruited suppleness, Wrekin for savoury weight, Churton adding structure and spice. Settlement and Wrekin were picked on 17 and 19 March, Churton on the 29th. All fruit was destemmed to a tank sealed for five days, punched down, fermented ten days more, then pressed to seasoned French barrels for thirteen months.

Red cherry and plum with earth, spice and a fine savoury frame, held together by acidity that keeps the middle lively. Serve at 14 degrees in a large glass. Duck breast, roast chicken with thyme, or mushrooms and barley.
