Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir 2023

Corofin Marlborough Pinot Noir is a village-level Pinot Noir drawn from two of the estate's best vineyards.

Wrekin takes 55 per cent and Settlement 45, harvested two days apart. Mike Paterson likes the pairing for the way Settlement's elegant, red-fruited suppleness sits against Wrekin's brooding savoury weight. The quality of the blend rests on the sites, but the crafting counts for as much: hand-picking, natural fermentation, gentle extraction and long lees ageing in oak, none of it hurried. Bottled at 13 per cent, which is roughly where these wines always land and part of why they carry so much detail at modest weight.

Delicate and succulent, loaded with vivid red fruit, a curl of smoke behind it, the acidity fine and cherry-sweet and the structure refined enough to carry the finish. Serve at 14 degrees. Roast quail, duck rillettes, or charcuterie with cornichons.
