Corofin Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

Corofin Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir is an organically grown Pinot Noir from a clay-rich strip in the Omaka Valley.

Eighteen years old and certified organic, this Dog Point site is managed by Nigel Sowman, and Corofin's parcel is a 0.25-hectare sliver at the top of the east slope, planted entirely to the 777 clone at 4,600 vines per hectare and cropped at around a kilogram per vine. Whole berries went into a sealed tank for five days at ambient temperature, fermentation ran a further seven, then the wine moved to seasoned French oak — twelve days on skins all up. Thirteen months in barrel and seven in tank followed before bottling unfined and unfiltered.

Red-fruited and youthfully radiant, as this block usually is, with more intensity than that description suggests: cherry, plum, a savoury edge and fine tannin. Serve at 14 degrees with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or grilled salmon.
