Corofin Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Corofin Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir is a pure, elegant Marlborough Pinot Noir made from a tiny crop.

Yields fell below a kilogram per vine that year — around 25 hectolitres per hectare — on the 0.25-hectare sliver at the top of the east slope that Corofin takes from this organically certified Dog Point site in the Omaka Valley. The parcel is clay-rich, planted at 4,600 vines per hectare to the 777 clone and managed by Nigel Sowman. Grapes were handpicked, sorted by hand and destemmed before a brisk seven-day ferment with one very gentle pump-over daily, then pressed to two and three-year-old French barrels for thirteen months and seven more in tank. Mike Paterson notes the phenolic structure here has shifted markedly in recent seasons.
