Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Chardonnay is a Marlborough Chardonnay made from meagre 2021 yields.

Crops across Marlborough were minuscule that year, and this block gave up just 25 hectolitres per hectare. Hand harvest fell on 6 March, and the wine was raised in two 500-litre seasoned French oak puncheons, otherwise following the village Chardonnay's path through the cellar. Planted in 2002 at the top of the Brancott Valley in its own small locality, the vineyard is BioGro-certified and biodynamically farmed on clay-rich soils over greywacke, oriented northeast at 4,000 vines per hectare to moderate vigour, and it is one of the highest sites in the valley, often the last to be harvested.

Mineral charm, elegant citrus and a hint of white flowers over a lithe, pure palate whose sleek weight is energised by pin-point acidity and sinewy phenolic structure. Savoury and long. Serve at 12 degrees: scallops, chicken poached with leeks, or a dozen oysters.
