Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Pinot Noir is the third release from this high, biodynamically farmed Marlborough site.

The 2022 season closed out a run of drought-like years in Marlborough and brought yields back, though this block was still held to 35 hectolitres per hectare — Grand Cru Burgundy territory. Picking fell in mid-March, and the destemmed berries went into two one-tonne open fermenters, the lowest tenth trodden underfoot and everything above it left intact, worked over gently once each day. After 21 days the wine went to seasoned oak for fourteen months, then eight months in tank. The vineyard covers 14 hectares of clay over greywacke, planted northeast at 4,000 vines per hectare.

Dark-fruited and structured, with brambly depth, delicate oak spice and tannins drawn out long. Easy to see why the site has become significant in the region. Serve at 15 degrees, decanted. Roast duck, lamb rump, or mushrooms with lentils and thyme.
