Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

Corofin Wrekin Vineyard Pinot Noir is the darkest and densest of the estate's single-vineyard Pinots.

The Johns family call this pocket of the Southern Valleys foothills Fairhall Valley, and their vineyard occupies a small locality of its own. The Johns planted it in 2002 and Jeremy Highland farms it for them, on clay over greywacke mother rock sheltered behind the Southern Valley scarps. Rows run northeast at 4,000 vines per hectare, and the elevation puts it among the last blocks picked each year. Mike Paterson says it gives him his most dense, dark-fruited expression of the variety, which is why it anchors the top of the range.

Svelte and layered, fusing sweet-toned wild berry fruit with herbal lift and delicate oak spice, the tannins sculpted and drawing everything into a fine finish. Still coiled; give it a decade. Serve at 15 degrees with venison, duck, or an aged hard cheese.
