Description
Corte Giara Bardolino DOC is a light red from the hills along the eastern shore of Lake Garda, in the Veneto.
Bardolino takes its name from the village on Garda's south eastern bank, and its vineyards sit on the moraine hills left behind by the glacier that carved the lake. The blend uses the same trio as Valpolicella, Corvina Veronese with Rondinella and a little Molinara, but on these stonier soils, and with the moderating influence of the water, the style is deliberately fresher and lighter in body. Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel, with no oak, so the wine keeps that character. Bardolino has been a defined zone since 1968, and a Chiaretto rosé is made under the same rules. Corte Giara is a range produced under the wing of the Allegrini family of Fumane, in Valpolicella.
A useful all rounder for antipasti, pizza, charcuterie and even grilled fish; serve lightly chilled, at around 14 degrees.
