Description
Corte Giara Prosecco Treviso DOC is a sparkling wine made from Glera in the province that gives the appellation its stricter name.
Treviso is one of the two named subzones of the wider Prosecco DOC, and wines carrying it must be grown and made within the province, a narrower boundary than the appellation as a whole. Prosecco is produced by the tank method, in which the second fermentation takes place in a sealed pressurised vessel rather than in bottle, a technique that suits Glera and keeps the wine light on its feet. The grape itself was renamed Glera in 2009, when Prosecco was reclassified as a protected place name rather than a variety, a change that fixed the name to the north east of Italy. Glera itself is a vigorous, late ripening grape long grown on the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Corte Giara is a range produced under the Allegrini family of Fumane, in Valpolicella.
Serve very cold as an aperitif, or with antipasti and lighter seafood dishes; drink it young.
