Corzano e Paterno Toscana Rosso Il Corzanello is a red from Tuscany built on Sangiovese, with Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Merlot.

Estate grown and organically farmed, the fruit again comes from the cooler corners of the property, which matters for a red meant to stay bright and drinkable at this price. Sangiovese does the talking, Cabernet Sauvignon adds frame, and a small dose of Merlot fleshes out the middle. A cold soak of about a week draws colour and a fine, powdery grip before fermentation gets going, and the rest of the winemaking is deliberately hands off, with nothing that would add weight or oak polish to what is essentially a Tuscan house red made properly. The Corzanello bottlings have long been the estate's calling card for value.

Black cherry and violets up front, then iodine and dried herbs, with fine tannins and enough acidity to reset the palate. Serve at 16 degrees, or slightly cooler in summer. Ragù, grilled sausages, pizza with olives, or a wedge of aged pecorino will all do nicely.
