Description
Craggy Range Gimblett Gravels Syrah is grown on the stony riverbed soils that made Hawke's Bay's reputation for the variety.
The Gimblett Gravels heat up during the day and radiate warmth at night, which is what allows Syrah to ripen this far south; the wines are peppery and medium-bodied, closer to the northern Rhône than to Australia. Craggy Range planted here from 1998. Fermentation includes whole bunches, and maturation is in French oak with restraint on new barrels.
Serve at 16 degrees with lamb, duck or grilled vegetables. It will develop over ten years.
