Description
Craggy Range Sophia is a Merlot-led Bordeaux blend from the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay.
The Gimblett Gravels is a defined area of old Ngaruroro riverbed, its deep shingle soils holding heat and draining fast, which makes it the most reliable ripening site in New Zealand for Bordeaux varieties. Sophia blends Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and sits alongside Le Sol and Aroha as one of the winery's prestige wines. Craggy Range was founded in 1998 by Terry Peabody with viticulturist Steve Smith MW.
Decant and serve at 17 degrees with roast lamb, beef or a mushroom dish. It develops over fifteen years.
