Craiglee Shiraz 2021

Craiglee Shiraz is a savoury, peppery Shiraz from the historic estate at Sunbury, just north-west of Melbourne.

Among Victoria's oldest wine districts, Sunbury is cool and windswept, conditions that give the grape pepper, spice and fine structure. Since the 1970s the Carmody family has run the estate, with Pat Carmody making the wine, and the bluestone winery goes back to the 1860s. Fruit comes from the estate vineyard and is handled lightly, with oak kept in check. Many regard it as a benchmark for cool-climate Australian examples.

Red and dark berries with white pepper and fine, savoury tannins. Try it at 16–18°C with lamb cutlets, roast duck or a mushroom ragù, or put a few bottles away to cellar.
