Cros des Calades Le Ballon Blanc 2024

Cros des Calades Le Ballon Blanc is an easy-drinking white blend of Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and Rolle, the grape better known to most of us as Vermentino.

Cros des Calades is the project of Florence and Benoît Chazallon, the couple behind Château de la Selve, based in the village of Grospierres in the southern Ardèche. Fruit is drawn from five neighbouring organically farmed vineyards, with soils ranging from cool clay-limestone near the Cévennes to warmer sites under a Mediterranean climate. Fermentation is natural and the cellar work is kept to a minimum so the fruit and the place come through. The name is local dialect for "pathway in the gorge", a nod to the rugged country these vines grow in.

Serve it well chilled, around 8–10°C, with grilled fish, garlic prawns, goat's cheese or a big summer salad.
