Description

Cros des Calades Le Ballon Rouge is a juicy, easy-going red from the Ardèche that blends Grenache with Syrah.

This label comes from Grospierres, in the hills of the southern Ardèche, where the Chazallons of Château de la Selve run Cros des Calades as a separate venture. Five nearby organic vineyards supply the grapes, so the blend draws on both the clay-limestone of the Cévennes foothills and hotter plots that feel the Mediterranean. Wild-yeast fermentation and a light touch in the winery keep it honest and unforced.

Give it a slight chill, around 14–16°C, and open it with pizza, roast pork, lamb merguez or a weeknight pasta.
