Cullen Ephraim 2023

Cullen Ephraim is a blend of 70 per cent Malbec and 30 per cent Petit Verdot from the biodynamic Mangan vineyard at Wilyabrup.

The wine honours Ephraim Mayo Clarke, Kevin John Cullen's grandfather and a Member of Parliament, who established the first winery in the south west at Bunbury in 1896. Margaret River's gravelly loam and maritime climate ripen Malbec and Petit Verdot without the heaviness they take on in warmer places, and the Mangan vineyard, planted in the mid-1990s, was given over to varieties chosen for a warming climate. The fruit is hand-harvested, naturally fermented, basket pressed and matured around eight months in French oak, roughly a third of it new, with no fining.

Serve at 17 degrees with grilled lamb, beef or a spiced vegetable dish. It will develop over a decade or more.
