Dandelion Vineyards Firehawk McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022

Dandelion Vineyards Firehawk McLaren Vale Shiraz is a dark, spicy McLaren Vale Shiraz with a smooth, creamy texture.

McLaren Vale, just south of Adelaide, has grown Shiraz since the nineteenth century, and its warm days and cooling sea breezes give the variety depth without heaviness. Elena Brooks, winemaker and co-founder of Dandelion Vineyards, looks for that balance in this release. The 2022 is purple-black and full of plum, prune and mulberry, with hints of laurel and spice. Tannins are fine and gently building, and a fresh acid backbone keeps the dark fruit lively as pepper creeps in on the finish.

The winery suggests serving it at cellar temperature, around 16 degrees, which helps the darker fruit and acidity come through. Match it with slow-cooked beef cheeks, barbecued sausages or a hard cheese. It can be decanted and will also reward a few years in the cellar.
