Description

Bellevue Schiste is Daniel Bouland's Morgon from the schist bands of the Bellevue lieu-dit, a parcel he took on in 2014.

Beaujolais is granite country for the most part, but seams of schist run through the Morgon hillsides, and growers treat them as a distinct terroir — the source of the darker, firmer, more mineral wines the cru is known for. Bouland farms under seven hectares from the hamlet of Corcelette at Villié-Morgon, on steep slopes between 320 and 400 metres, and bottles his parcels separately by soil, so Bellevue appears as Schiste, Sable and Cailloux depending on the ground beneath the vines. The vines across the domaine are sixty to a hundred years old, densely planted and worked entirely by hand, with treatments kept to sulphur and copper. Everything is hand-picked and fermented whole-cluster with natural yeasts in concrete vats, pumped over twice a day, then aged in 2,000-litre foudres and bottled unfiltered.

Drink now or over the next eight years. Serve at 16–18°C with roast pork, coq au vin or a cheese board.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
