David Duband Échezeaux Grand Cru 2023

David Duband Échezeaux is a grand cru from the large vineyard on the slope above the Clos de Vougeot, in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux.

Échezeaux covers more than thirty hectares and is really a federation of climats rather than a single vineyard: names such as Les Poulaillères, Les Rouges du Bas, Les Cruots and En Orveaux sit at different heights and on different soils, from stony limestone high on the slope to deeper ground near the Clos de Vougeot wall. The best sectors adjoin Grands Échezeaux and produce wines with the silky texture and spiced red fruit associated with Vosne-Romanée. Pinot Noir is the only grape. David Duband farms organically, ferments with a generous proportion of whole bunches and infuses rather than extracts hard, ageing in oak barrel with new wood in proportion to the vineyard's rank.

Silky and spiced, a wine for game birds, beef and truffle, and one that rewards patience; serve at around 17 degrees.
