David Duband Hautes Côtes de Nuits Louis Auguste 2023

David Duband Hautes Côtes de Nuits Louis Auguste is a named cuvée of Pinot Noir from the limestone plateau above the Côte de Nuits, from a domaine based in those hills.

David Duband works from Chevannes, high in the Hautes-Côtes west of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and farms organically. Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits covers this cooler upland country, where thin soils over hard limestone and an altitude well above the main slope push harvest later and give reds of red-fruited freshness rather than weight. Duband is known on the Côte de Nuits for generous use of whole bunches in fermentation, gentle infusion rather than hard extraction, and ageing in barrel with restrained new oak. The wine is sealed with a Diam closure, which the domaine uses across its range.

Crunchy and lifted, a red for charcuterie, roast chicken and grilled vegetables; serve at around 15 degrees.
