Dawson James Big Bird Syrah 2023

Dawson James Big Bird Syrah is an Adelaide Hills Shiraz made in the lighter, peppery style that the Syrah label points to.

Up in the Mount Lofty Ranges above Adelaide, altitude makes this one of South Australia's coolest wine regions. Shiraz here ripens later and more slowly than in the Barossa or McLaren Vale, with brighter acidity, finer tannin and a savoury, spicy edge. Calling it Syrah usually signals a more restrained, Rhône-leaning wine. The label is better known for its Tasmanian range, and we can't confirm the vineyard source or winemaking for this one, so we describe it by region and style.

Medium weight, spicy and fresh. Serve slightly cool at 15–17°C with lamb cutlets, duck, charcuterie or mushroom dishes, or just on its own with a relaxed midweek meal.
