Dawson James Chardonnay 2019

Dawson James Chardonnay is a layered Tasmanian Chardonnay from the Derwent Valley, released once it has some bottle age.

Peter Dawson and Tim James held senior winemaking roles at Hardys for many years before setting up in Tasmania. Their fruit comes from the Meadowbank vineyard, in a sheltered, fairly dry valley north-west of Hobart, and the slow ripening there gives Chardonnay texture without losing acid. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak for structure and released late, a hallmark of the label.

Citrus and stone fruit with subtle oak, a mineral line and the extra layers that come with age. Good with scallops, crab, roast chicken or soft cheeses at 10–12°C.
