Description

Dawson James Chardonnay is a cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay from the Derwent Valley, released with some bottle age.

The Meadowbank vineyard lies north-west of Hobart in a sheltered, relatively dry valley, and its long season lets the fruit ripen slowly, gaining texture and holding acid. Barrel work in French oak is about structure, not flavour. The wine, from the partnership of ex-Hardys winemakers Peter Dawson and Tim James, is then kept back until it has some age on it.

Mineral and fine, with citrus and stone fruit over subtle oak and a little developed complexity. Try it at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops, crab or soft cheeses.
