Description

De Fazio Zitta Old Bush Vine Grenache is a red from old, untrellised vines in the Barossa Valley.

The De Fazio vineyard is at Greenock, in the north west of the Barossa Valley, and dates back to 1864, with a few vines from that time still in the ground. It is owned and run by Angelo De Fazio, whose family came from Calabria in southern Italy. Zitta, the Italian word for quiet, is the family's label, and Shiraz dominates the plantings. Grenache has been grown in the Barossa since the nineteenth century, traditionally as free-standing bush vines. Old vines of this kind give small crops and wines with more depth than the grape usually shows.

It suits roast pork, lamb, charcuterie and Mediterranean dishes; serve at around 16 to 18 degrees.
