Description

Dehesa La Granja Tinto is a Tempranillo from Alejandro Fernández's Zamora estate, released only after roughly a decade in bottle.

Alejandro Fernández built his reputation at Pesquera and Condado de Haza in Ribera del Duero; Dehesa La Granja is his outpost in the province of Zamora, bought in 1998. The ranch, which also produces olive oil, cheese and chickpeas, sits at altitude on the Guareña River just outside the boundaries of the Toro region, so the wine falls outside the local denominación. Each year the estate releases one wine and releases it with age. It is made from ungrafted old-clone Tempranillo, aged twenty-four months in barrel and then held for another decade or so in bottle, maturing slowly in the estate's labyrinthine eighteenth-century cellars. Mature, ready-to-drink red carrying this much bottle age is rare, and it comes down to a grower who has always been content to wait.

It is ready now and needs no further cellaring. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, grilled beef or aged Manchego.
