Denton Shed Chardonnay 2024

Denton Shed Chardonnay is a tank-fermented Yarra Valley Chardonnay from the cooler side of the estate hill.

The Shed vines occupy the lower reaches of the north-eastern slope, the cool flank of a hillside site where the aspect changes every fifty metres. P58 makes up most of the mix, joined this vintage by a small plot of close-planted Gingin from the top of the hill, which adds a little flesh. Fruit was pressed to tank for a cool, natural fermentation, then left eleven months on lees with malolactic conversion allowed to run all the way through. No new oak and no fuss, because the point of the Shed range is to put single-site Yarra Chardonnay on the table at a price that makes sense.

Lemon, green apple and a dab of cream from the full malo, finishing dry and clean. Ten to eleven degrees, straight from the fridge door. It is an easy match for fish and chips, a chicken sandwich, prawns off the barbecue, or just a glass on its own.
