Denton Shed Nebbiolo 2024

Denton Shed Nebbiolo is an approachable Yarra Valley Nebbiolo from a hillside block planted to six clones.

Eight of the eighty acres on this hill are Nebbiolo, spread across six clones, with more going in, an unusual commitment for a Yarra grower and the reason the variety has become the estate's calling card. The block sits halfway up the north-western slope, taking all the sun on offer, which stretches ripening out over a long, slow finish to the season. For the 2024 Shed bottling the fruit was destemmed, fermented on wild yeast, and held ten days on skins with daily hand plunging. Short, gentle and deliberately unfussy.

Aromatics run to rose, cherry stone and orange peel, and the palate is light-footed with fine, grippy tannin and clean acidity. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees. It likes salumi, veal schnitzel, roast capsicum, or a simple risotto with mushrooms.
