Denton View Hill Nebbiolo 2025

Denton View Hill Nebbiolo is a medium-bodied Yarra Valley Nebbiolo from the estate oldest Nebbiolo plantings.

The original six-clone planting on the warm north-western face of the hill is the source, and its warmth is the reason this variety can be grown here at all. Fruit was hand picked and fully destemmed, so there is no stem influence in the mix, then fermented spontaneously in stainless steel. A fortnight on skins builds the detail and the tannin frame without overloading either. Élevage was split between stainless steel and seasoned oak puncheons, a choice that keeps the aromatics forward and the wood invisible. Among Australian Nebbiolo, this estate has as good a claim to the variety as anyone.

Perfume leads: sour cherry and blood orange, crushed rose, dried tea leaf, a whiff of warm terracotta. Tannins are fine and lightly chewy and the close is juicy. Decant for half an hour and serve at 16 degrees. Osso buco, braised duck, mushroom ragù or aged pecorino.
