Description
Domaine Albert Mann Pinot Gris Furstentum Grand Cru is a full, mostly dry Pinot Gris from a warm limestone grand cru in Alsace.
The hillside rises steeply above Kientzheim and Sigolsheim, a south-facing run of marl and chalky stone long known for the depth it gives both Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé moved the domaine to organic and then biodynamic farming. Picking waits for full ripeness, pressing is slow, and wild yeasts do the fermenting. Long lees ageing in big old foudres and casks adds breadth without any new-oak flavour.
Quince and spice on a broad palate, a firm mineral line and just a trace of sweetness. Serve at 10–12°C with roast pork, smoked fish, foie gras or a washed-rind cheese.
