Domaine Albert Mann Pinot Noir 'Grand H' Grand Cru 2024

Domaine Albert Mann Pinot Noir Grand H is drawn from old vines on Hengst, one of the few Alsace sites allowed to put this grape under a grand cru label.

That south-facing slope mixes marl, limestone and sandstone, and the plantings here are past forty years old. Work in the vineyard follows Demeter-certified biodynamics, run by brothers Maurice and Jacky Barthelme from their base at Wettolsheim. Roughly 20 per cent whole bunches go into the vat, with a similar share of new barrels used during maturation.

Smoke, wild berry and black cherry come through with a dark chocolate edge, the tannins fine and the finish long and saline. Serve near 15 degrees with roast duck, mushroom gratin or veal.
