Domaine Albert Mann Riesling Wineck-Schlossberg Grand Cru 2024

Domaine Albert Mann Riesling Wineck-Schlossberg Grand Cru is a concentrated, dry Riesling from a granite amphitheatre above Katzenthal.

Weathered granite forms a steep, south-east facing bowl above the village, draining hard and warming fast. On this soil Riesling gives tension and mineral cut more than weight of fruit, and the site is one of the more sharply defined grands crus in Alsace. Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé grow grass between the rows, keep yields low and pick into small crates, all under biodynamic farming. A slow wild-yeast ferment follows whole-bunch pressing, then several months on fine lees in old casks and steel before bottling, unfined and without heavy filtration.

Dense and dry, with firm acidity carrying a long, salty finish. It will cellar for a decade or more, but decant it if opening now, and serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, scallops or aged Comté.
