Domaine Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Génération Dix-Neuf 1.5L MAGNUM 2018

Domaine Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Génération Dix-Neuf is drawn from the oldest vines in La Moussière, roughly a century of age, and is bottled here in magnum.

Together with its stablemate Edmond, Dix-Neuf is the antithesis of modern textbook Sancerre. The fruit comes from the most venerable plantings in the Mellot family's home vineyard below the town, on the rocky Saint-Doulchard marls that form part of the same Kimmeridgian chain as Chablis. The estate is farmed biodynamically, and this cuvée is cropped at yields associated with Grand Cru Burgundy, at the lower end of that range. The wine was fermented and raised for twelve months in 2,000-litre tronconique wooden tanks before a further spell in steel on lees. Only around 500 cases are made each year. The style pairs the intensity and texture of white Burgundy with the racy acid core more often found in Riesling or Chenin Blanc.

Drinks well now and will develop for fifteen years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a hard alpine cheese.
