Description
Domaine André et Michel Quenard Persan 'Allobrogica' is a rare varietal expression of Persan, one of Savoie's oldest and least-planted red grapes.
The Quenard family has grown vines around the village of Chignin, in the French Alpine region of Savoie, across several generations, farming steep hillside sites below the Mont Saint-Michel outcrop that shelters the vineyards. Alongside the region's more familiar Jacquère and Mondeuse, the estate has helped preserve and champion Persan, a near-forgotten indigenous variety once widespread in Savoie before phylloxera and changing fashions saw it almost disappear. Savoie's mountain climate, with cool nights and relatively high-altitude vineyards, gives its reds a natural freshness and lifted character distinct from warmer French wine regions.
This is a savoury, food-friendly Alpine red, well suited to mountain cheeses, charcuterie or richer poultry and game dishes.
