Domaine Antoine Jobard Beaune 1er Cru Epenottes 2022

Epenottes lies right on the Pommard border and is the only red in Antoine Jobard's allocation fermented with a portion of whole bunches.

Les Epenottes sits at the southern end of Beaune's Premier Cru slope, low enough that clay builds up in the soil profile and gives the wines more flesh than the stonier sites higher on the hill. Antoine Jobard farms just under a hectare here, with vines close to forty years old. The domaine's red winemaking is otherwise built on full destemming, but this cuvée takes about thirty per cent whole bunches, which adds lift and a savoury edge to the fruit. Oak is used sparingly, in keeping with the house style established across the range, and the wine is raised on lees before bottling. The result is layered and generous by the standards of the domaine, with the structure to age.

Already pleasurable and capable of ten years or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game birds or mushrooms on toast.
