Description
Domaine Antoine Jobard Beaune 1er Cru Les Montrevenots is a tiny cuvée cropped from one-tenth of the domaine's holding while the rest of the site is replanted.
Montrevenots sits at the top of the hill on the Pommard boundary, above Clos des Mouches, and is a high, cold, rocky and late-ripening site; the south-facing aspect goes some way to offsetting the altitude. The white clay and limestone soils here tend to give raciness, bright red fruit and a fine, powdery structure rather than weight. Jobard farms 1.4 hectares but is currently replanting most of it with massal-selection cuttings, so only a fraction is in production; the parcel in play is the historic Clos des Montrevenots, where the vines are 45 years old. All the grapes were destemmed and given a week-long cold soak before fermentation. There is very little new oak and the wine is bottled after 12 months on lees, which suits a Beaune made for purity and freshness.
Drinkable young and good for six to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled mushrooms.
