Description
Les Montrevenots is a high, cold, rocky Premier Cru at the top of the Beaune slope, on the Pommard boundary above Clos des Mouches.
Beaune's Premier Cru band wraps around the town on limestone and white clay, and Montrevenots sits at its southern, upper edge, where altitude makes for late ripening; its south-facing aspect offsets some of that. The soils tend to produce bright red-fruited wines with fine, powdery structure. Antoine Jobard's parcel was historically known as the Clos des Montrevenots and totals 1.4 hectares, but only about a tenth is currently in production, as most of the site is being replanted with mass-selection cuttings. The vines behind this cuvée are forty-five years old. All the bunches are destemmed and given a week of cold soaking before fermentation, and the wine sees very little new oak, spending twelve months on lees before bottling. Production at this stage is tiny.
Drinking well from release and worth holding for up to a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised beef cheek or a soft washed-rind cheese.
