Description
Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is blended from holdings in both the upper Charmes-Dessus and the lower Dessous sectors, totalling a quarter of a hectare.
Les Charmes is the largest of the Meursault premier crus and is effectively two vineyards: Charmes-Dessus, high on the slope on shallow soil over limestone, and Charmes-Dessous below it, on deeper, richer ground. Jobard draws on both, with two-thirds of the fruit from Dessus, which he credits with the minerality and freshness of the wine because, as he puts it, the vines are very much on rocks. The Dessous fruit supplies flesh and mid-palate. Vine age varies; the key parcel, directly below Les Perrières, was planted in 1963, and the average across the holding is around thirty years. The house style is reductive and unhurried, with a long élevage in barrel and restrained new oak. Just two barrels were made, so quantities in Australia are minimal.
Worth four or five years and capable of fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast turbot, lobster or a well-aged hard cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
