Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2022

Jobard's Charmes is a blend of two-thirds Charmes-Dessus and one-third the lower Dessous sector, from holdings totalling just 0.24 hectares.

Charmes is the largest of Meursault's Premiers Crus, running in two tiers across the slope; the upper Dessus sits on thin soils over limestone, while the lower Dessous has deeper, richer ground. Antoine Jobard's holding is minuscule, and he draws on both. Two-thirds of the vines are in Charmes-Dessus, which he says brings a great deal of freshness and mineral character because of all the limestone, noting that they are very much on rock there. The Dessous fruit supplies flesh and mid-palate weight. Vine age varies across the parcels, with the key holding planted in 1963 directly below Les Perrières and an overall average of around thirty years. Only two barrels were made in this release, in the domaine's usual style of long élevage and sparing new oak.

Worth three to five years in the cellar and good for well over a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with roast poultry, grilled prawns or comté.
