Description
Jobard's Genevrières comes from a 0.7-hectare parcel beside the vineyard's landmark cabotte, in the Genevrières Dessous sector.
Genevrières is one of the trio of great Meursault Premiers Crus alongside Perrières and Charmes, sitting on limestone scree on the Puligny side of the village and typically giving Chardonnay of both intensity and lift. Antoine Jobard is the fourth generation at this small Meursault domaine, which built its reputation on long, patient élevage and restrained use of new oak. His parcel here runs to 0.7 hectares of thirty-five-year-old vines next to the well-known Genevrières workers' cottage, or cabotte. Jobard attributes the wine's consistency of purity and intensity to his vine material, a mass selection planted in the 1960s: as he puts it, the fruit is always well balanced, with good pH and high acidity, and he rarely sees under- or overripe berries. Production is very small and allocations are limited.
Best given five years and drunk over the following fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a soft washed-rind cheese.
