Description
Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is drawn from a 0.7-hectare parcel beside the well-known cabotte in Genevrières Dessous.
Genevrières is one of the three great Premier Crus on the Puligny side of Meursault, along with Perrières and Charmes, and is usually the most floral and elegant of them. The Jobard family have been in Meursault for generations, and Antoine Jobard's wines are known for reduction, tension and slow development, with long élevage and minimal handling. His parcel lies in Genevrières Dessous, next to the vineyard's landmark cabotte or workers' cottage. Jobard puts the consistency of the wine down to his plant material, a mass selection planted in the 1960s and early 1970s, which he says gives well-formed berries year in and year out, with good pH and high acidity and very little under- or over-ripe fruit. Many regard the result as Grand Cru in all but name.
Needs time and will reward eight to fifteen years. Serve at 10-12°C with lobster, roast chicken or veal in cream.
