Description
Domaine Antoine Jobard Pommard 1er Cru Epenots, in magnum, is the domaine's top red, from the island of Petit Epenots.
Pommard is known for firm, broad reds, and Epenots is the vineyard most often named among its best. Antoine Jobard, a Meursault house first and foremost, farms 0.6 hectares in the pocket of Petit Epenots that lies between Grand Epenots and Pezerolles. What the site gives in his hands is not the expected weight but finesse, at least by Pommard standards, with a texture that reads as much like Volnay. The vines were planted in 1982 and 1986. The wine carries wild berry and floral character, real flesh and very fine tannins, the product of restrained cellar work rather than heavy extraction. Bottled in magnum, it will develop more slowly than the standard format.
Worth five years or more before opening and long-lived thereafter, it suits roast lamb, game or aged Époisses. Serve at 16-18°C.
