Domaine Antoine Jobard Pommard 1er Cru Epenots 2022

Domaine Antoine Jobard Pommard 1er Cru Epenots is the domaine's top red, from a small holding in the island of Petit Epenots.

Pommard has a reputation for firm, broad-shouldered reds, and the Epenots vineyards on the Beaune side of the commune are among its finest. Antoine Jobard, better known for the whites of Meursault, farms 0.6 hectares here in the pocket of Petit Epenots that sits between Grand Epenots and Pezerolles. In his hands the site gives something other than the usual Pommard weight: there is finesse, and a texture that reads as much like Volnay as it does like Pommard. The vines were planted in 1982 and 1986, and the wine shows wild berry and floral character over flesh and very fine tannins. Jobard's cellar work is restrained, and the wine is built on balance rather than extraction.

Worth three to five years before opening and good for well over a decade, it suits roast lamb, game or a mature Époisses. Serve at 16-18°C.
