Domaine Auguste Clape Saint-Péray 2023

Domaine Auguste Clape Saint-Péray is a rare white wine from one of the northern Rhône's most respected family estates.

Based in the village of Cornas, the Clape family is best known for its benchmark Syrah, and the late Auguste Clape did much to build the reputation of that appellation. The domaine is now run by his son Pierre-Marie and grandson Olivier. Alongside their reds they make a small amount of white from Saint-Péray, the neighbouring appellation just to the south, where Marsanne and Roussanne grow on granite and limestone slopes. Expect a dry, textured white with the weight typical of Marsanne and a fresh, mineral finish.

Serve cool, not too cold, with roast chicken, trout with almonds or a creamy soft cheese. It can be enjoyed young, and good Saint-Péray also rewards a few years in bottle.
