Domaine Chapelle le Chevalier Sterimberg Blanc 2021

Domaine de la Chapelle Chevalier de Sterimberg Blanc is a white Hermitage named in tribute to Henri-Gaspard de Sterimberg, the knight who is said to have settled on the hill in 1224, built the Saint Christophe chapel and lived there as a hermit. The story became closely associated with the origins of the Hermitage name, and Chevalier de Sterimberg is the white wine companion to the domaine’s celebrated La Chapelle Hermitage Rouge.

Made from Marsanne grown on the Hermitage hill, the wine draws on parcels including Maison Blanche, Les Murets and Rocoules. The fine loess soils of Maison Blanche and Les Murets help moderate water stress and are particularly well suited to Marsanne, while the stony slopes of Rocoules contribute another expression of this complex terroir. The organically grown grapes are harvested by hand and whole-cluster pressed, with fermentation and ageing taking place in a combination of egg-shaped concrete tanks and oak demi-muids. It remains on fine lees for six to nine months with regular stirring.

Serve at around 10 to 12 degrees with roast poultry, lobster, scallops, rich seafood dishes or mature cheeses.
