Description
Domaine Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes takes its name from the grove of cherry trees beside the vineyard at Saint-Vérand.
Southern Beaujolais supplies the bulk of straight Beaujolais, and the Chermette family has spent decades demonstrating what the zone can do in careful hands. Les Griottes comes from 40-year-old Gamay on dark granite around the homestead at Saint-Vérand. The winemaking is unchanged from one year to the next: traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by maturation in a mix of tank and old oak casks, with no new wood involved. Where the estate’s Moulin-à-Vent and Fleurie are made for keeping, this cuvée is deliberately lighter in frame, aiming for crunch and drinkability rather than structure. The 2024 growing season was a cooler one in Beaujolais, which at this level has given a wine on the thirst-quenching side, with tangy red berry fruit and a cherrystone bite.
For drinking now and over the next two years. Serve lightly chilled at 14-16°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a ploughman’s plate.
