Description
Domaine Chermette Brouilly Pierreux comes from 1.5 hectares of sixty-year-old Gamay on the stony ground at the foot of Mont Brouilly.
Brouilly is the largest and southernmost of the Beaujolais crus, wrapped around the volcanic cone of Mont Brouilly, and its wines are generally the most approachable of the ten. Martine Chermette’s grandmother was born and grew up among the vines at Pierreux, just outside the hamlet of Odenas, and as Martine puts it, for sentimental reasons they could not resist buying the little plot when it came up. The domaine tends just 1.5 hectares here, with sixty-year-old roots reaching deep into the eroded granite and bluestone washed down from the mountain over millennia. The name Pierreux comes from pierres, stones, which describes the soil accurately enough. The wine is made in the house style, with whole-bunch semi-carbonic fermentation and ageing in tank and old cask.
Drinking well now and good for five years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
