Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié, here in magnum, comes from 4.5 hectares of 45-year-old vines on the pink granite of one of the cru’s highland sites.

Fleurie is the most perfumed of the ten Beaujolais crus, and Poncié is one of a handful of celebrated terroirs along the ridge high above the village, Roche Guillon among them. Chermette’s holding runs to 4.5 hectares of 45-year-old vines on pink granite soils, and the domaine considers it its most seductive and graceful cru bottling, particularly in youth. The winemaking is traditional throughout: natural, whole-bunch ferments in large concrete vats, then ageing in large old foudres with no new oak involved. Pierre-Marie Chermette describes the style he is after as élégant et aérien — elegant and lifted — and Poncié is the site that gives it most readily. It is one of seven Fleurie vineyards recently put forward for Premier Cru status. This bottling is a 1.5-litre magnum.

Good now and will develop over five to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
