Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié 375ml 2023

Domaine Chermette Fleurie Poncié, in half bottle, comes from a 4.5-hectare site of 45-year-old vines on the pink granite of one of the cru's highest terroirs.

Fleurie is the Beaujolais cru most associated with perfume and lift, and Poncié is one of a handful of celebrated highland sites along the ridge above the village, alongside Roche Guillon. It is one of seven Fleurie vineyards recently put forward for premier cru status. Domaine Chermette's parcel covers 4.5 hectares of 45-year-old vines on pink granite soils, and the resulting wine is the most graceful of the domaine's cru bottlings, particularly in its youth. Winemaking remains traditional, with natural whole-bunch ferments in large concrete vats and ageing in large old foudres rather than barrels, so nothing is imposed on the fruit. Pierre-Marie Chermette describes the style he seeks here as élégant et aérien, elegant and lifted, which is a fair account of the result. This is the 375ml half bottle.

Drink now and over the next five years, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees.
